These are the films which inspired Serge Leone to make Spaghetti Westerns. The films contained here are:

          1. SEVEN SAMURAI (1954)
          2. THRONE OF BLOOD (1957)
          3. THE HIDDEN FORTRESS (1958)
          4. YOJIMBO (1961)
          5. SANJURO (1962)

The Seven Samurai is considered his one of the finest martial arts movies ever and is the inspiration for The Magnificent Seven. It tells the story of how a small Japanese village hire 7 ronin to fight back against bandits.

The Throne of Blood is based on Shakespear’s Macbeth which is both beautiful and brutal at the same time.

The Hidden Fortress is the story of a warrior and a princess who try to return to their homeland with their fortune. George Lucus says that it inspired him to create Star Wars. It is a story of honour and failure.

Yojimbo tells the story of the drifting Samurai who works for two warring families. It is the tale that inspired A Fistful of Dollars.

Sanjuro is possibly the least known of Akira Kurosawa’s works. It is a “comedy of manners” and tells the story of a man fighting a corrupt government and provides a twist in the tale which combines classic Samurai story telling with modern Japanese cinema.
